Osprey Publishing launches games division
Published:
March 3, 2014 Following its recent success with its miniature wargaming lines, Osprey Publishing has developed a dedicated games division, the company announced via a March 3 press release.
Osprey Games will expand its wargaming lines while also developing board and card games.
“Osprey and wargaming have always been the proverbial ‘two great tastes that taste great together,’ and the growing range of wargaming products has met with fantastic reception from gamers,” said Philip Smith, games manager for the new Osprey Games division. “The creation of Osprey Games means that gaming is going to be getting a lot more attention, and I’ve already got some very exciting projects on the drawing board”
The company has started recruiting for a games developer, according to the release.
Osprey broke into the miniature wargaming hobby in 2008 with its release of Field of Glory in collaboration with Slitherine Strategies Ltd. Previously, Osprey only provided wargaming guides for figure painting and scenario writing.
As board and card games have become more popular in recent years, the company has come to see game publishing as a natural extension of its services, according to the release.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to grow our business into another exciting niche where we can provide top-quality product for our customers, old and new alike,” Publishing Managing Director Richard Sullivan said. “Our experience with wargaming rules, our in-house capabilities and some canny recruitment will ensure we’ll be bringing out some great games in the near future.”
