Fan Expo HQ acquires MegaCon

Published: April 9, 2015
Canadian convention producer Fan Expo HQ, a subsidiary of London-based multinational media giant Informa PLC, announced it has added MegaCon, held in Orlando, Fla., to its roster of comic book/science fiction/fantasy pop-culture events.

The management team of Elizabeth Widera and Christine Algar has made MegaCon one of the biggest geek gatherings in the South, with 90,000 fans attending in 2014. The transition should be fairly invisible to fans attending this year’s show, April 10-12 at the Orange County Convention Center.

“Beth and Christine have proven they are amongst the most successful entrepreneurs in the pop-culture convention industry,” says Fan Expo HQ president Brian Powers. “I have tremendous admiration for what they have built, and everyone at Fan Expo HQ looks forward to the opportunity to work alongside them as we continue to grow MegaCon.”

Widera says, “We are excited to join Informa and Fan Expo HQ and become part of their international family of events while continuing to grow MegaCon within a culture of entrepreneurship that will empower our team to keep improving our show and the fan experience.”

The MegaCon acquisition comes a little more than a year since Fan Expo HQ added Dallas’ Comic Con to its portfolio in February 2014.
