Comic-Con stays in San Diego through 2018

July 8, 2015 San Diego Comic-Con International and the city of San Diego have reached an agreement for the convention to remain there through 2018, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer announced.
The previous contract was to expire in 2016. Negotiations centered around facility capacity, convention costs and hotel rates. David Glanzer, Comic-Con spokesman, says, “hoteliers and the tourism industry” were key in the discussions.
First held in San Diego in 1970, Comic-Con is the longest continuously running convention of its kind in the U.S. The event pumps about $135 million into the local economy and yields an additional $2.8 million in taxes, according to the mayor’s office.
“Fans near and far can rejoice that their favorite superheroes and celebrities will continue to gather under the San Diego sun,” says Faulconer. |
